The ship hijacked in the Arabian Sea is kept off the coast of Somalia - News2Sea

It was reported that the Maltese-flagged commercial ship, which was hijacked in the Arabian Sea about 2 weeks ago, was kept by pirates off the coast of Somalia.

According to the Times of Malta, the ship named “Ruen”, operated by a Bulgarian company, has been held off the coast of Somalia since it was hijacked by pirates in the Arabian Sea on December 14.

The ship, closely observed by the European Union Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) and the Maltese army, is anchored approximately 4 kilometers off the Baqbaq region of Somalia.

It is not yet known what the pirates want for the ship, which has 18 crew members from Bulgaria, Angola and Myanmar.

The commercial ship named “Ruen” was hijacked by pirates in the Arabian Sea on December 14.

Ahmed Yasin Salah, Minister of Ports and Fighting Against Maritime Crimes in Somalia’s Puntland state, announced that the ship was surrounded by both sea and land.

On the coast of Somalia, where there have been no incidents of piracy for about 10 years, kidnappings started to occur again after the Houthis in Yemen attacked commercial ships passing through the Red Sea.
